This is an original piece by Smith that is gouache on board.  The size of actual art board is 15" x 18 1/2".

The original mat measures 21" x 21" overall with an inside measurement of 12" x 12”
Smith liked to use #80 Bainbridge drawing board for his works which imparted a special luminosity to his colors.

Condition:  Very good color and detail. Stain due to age on mat upper right corner, small discolored dots in a couple of corners of art, usual condition for its age.

"J. Frederick Smith was born in Pasadena, CA and grew up in Covina.  As an illustrator he did work for Good Housekeeping magazine.  In 1938 he moved to the East Coast where he found work in the illustration field.  After WWII he worked as a pin-up artist for "Esquire" and did illustrations for calendars, playing cards, etc.
In 1947 he left the field of illustration and started a photographic ad service."
